AMS CDT Welcomes the 2016 Cohort. In September 2016 the AMS CDT welcomed our new 2016 cohort. Here's a few of the things they've been busy with.

Visit to Rutherford Appleton Labs. To round off the first year course, we joined the Materials for Demanding Environments CDT in a visit to the Rutherford Appleton Labs in Oxfordshire.

Junior Euromat 2016. 17 students from the 2013 and 2014 cohorts presented posters and short talks at the 2016 Junior Euromat conference in Lausanne.

National Student Conference 2016. The CDT hosted the sixth National Student Conference in Metallic Materials on 28th and 29th June, held at the University of Sheffield. The event was a great success attracting over 130 attendees.

Alumni BBQ. Our first CDT alumni bbq was held at the end of June with all staff, students and alumni invited.

Engineering Imagination. Petit, Nick and Jacob took a stand to the Engineering Imagination event, held in the Sheffield Winter Garden with the aim of encouraging children, especially girls into engineering.

Materials Hoopla. Students created a Hoopla game as part of a science fair run for children from Hasland Junior School in Chesterfield.

Magnetism 2016 Poster Prize. Congratulations to CDT student Alex Mackie, awarded the Best Poster prize at Magnetism 2016.

Poetry Competition. Rebecca Jones entered a poem into the University of Manchester's Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences annual poetry competition about life as a PhD student.

World Titanium Conference 2015. Five CDT students recently presented their work at the World Titanium Conference in San Diego, California.

Winner of the 2014 Literature Review Prize. Dave Griffiths has won the 2014 Literature Review Prize of the Materials Science and Technology journal for his paper on Rare Earth additions in Magnesium.
